  14. 512K Memory

  16. Though KindWords does run under 512K memory, we recommend you expand to 1 meg of memory.  With the added SuperFonts, larger dictionary, and new electronic thesaurus more memory is required to fully utilize the features of KindWords.

  18. 1 Meg of Memory or More
  19.

When using 1 meg of memory, or more, KindWords will ask you if you wish to load the Dictionary or Thesaurus in memory.  Loading it in memory will increase the speed of the dictionary and thesaurus but will also use up a significant amount of available memory.  If you are working with large documents or large graphic files, it would be a good idea not to load the dictionary or thesaurus in memory.

  22. Printing With SuperFonts

KindWords comes with the unique SuperFonts feature that makes any dot-matrix printer output high quality fonts -- four times as many dots per character as the standard Amiga fonts.  The tradeoff is speed.  For printers that have a nice Final Print font, we recommend you use the Final Printing option from the Print requester.  This mode will use the printer's internal final font for fast printing and use SuperFonts for Symbols, Math, Greek, etc..  This combination will always give you the best printout with the best printing speed.

  26. SuperDrivers

  28. In order to use SuperFonts, KindWords uses its own drivers in conjunction with the Amiga printer drivers.  KindWords has drivers for most of the Workbench supported printers except for the following ones:

  30. Non graphic printers such as the Diablo 630
  31. Okidata 92
  32.  
  33. If your printer is not compatible with any of the available drivers try using the generic driver.  SuperFonts will not be supported but you should be able to print with your printer's own font.

  35. Workbench

  37. KindWords uses the system clipboard to save the cut or copied text or graphics. Therefore you must not write-protect the current Workbench.

  39. If you decide to use another Workbench with KindWords, copy the KindWords icon, fonts drawer, and SuperDrivers drawer to the other Workbench disk.

  42. Preferences

  44. Using 8 Lines Per Inch (LPI)
  45.

KindWords will only use the 8 lines per inch setting from Preferences only in Draft and Final quality printing.  IF using Final, make sure you only are using Roman 12 throughout your whole document.  If you use any other Font type in your document, SuperFonts will be used and KindWords will ignore the 8 lines per inch setting in Preferences and print 6 lines per inch.

  48. If you still are not getting 8 lines per inch you may have to change the Page Size or Quality setting in Preferences.  With a little  experimenting you should be able to get what you want.

  50. Amiga Printer Problems

  52. The following problems are a result of errors in the Amiga printer drivers.  We are working with Commodore to fix those problems in the near future.  However, until then we suggest some work-around situations to better use your printer.

  54. Hewlett-Packard Laserjet and Laserjet+:
  55.  
  56. There are a few problems with printing SuperFonts with Laser Printers.  We suggest you use the Laser Printers own internal font for printing.

  58. The Amiga drivers for the Laserjet do not support font styles such as boldface and italics.

  60. After printing the document an extra blank sheet of paper is printed.

  62. If you wish to have a LaserJet+ version of SuperFonts please call our technical support number listed on your warranty card.  SuperFonts are only supported on the LaserJet+.

  64. Translator on the SuperFont Disk
  65.  
  66. The Translator is a utility program that you can use to convert the Supplemental file into a KindWords ASCII file.  This will allow you to then edit the Supplemental file when you are in KindWords.

Note:  Once you have converted the Supplemental file into ASCII you will have to close and then reopen the Dictionary Disk in Workbench to see the Supplemental ASCII file.  Double-clicking on the ASCII file will load it as a KindWords file.  You will then be able to remove words that you added to the dictionary as well as add new words.

  70. Once you have edited the file to your liking and saved it as an ASCII file you then have to reconvert the Supplemental ASCII file back to the Supplemental Dictionary File format using the Translator.

  74. The manual states that the Examples drawer is on the Program disk.  It is now located on the SuperFonts disk.
